Birthday Video Idea #1 Impact
What did they do in the last year that impacted you? Helped you? Something my husband and I ask each other every day is “what made you feel loved today?” We share something that the other person did that made us feel loved. It would be awesome to keep a record of these things and make a big long list in your birthday video. If you’re starting far enough in advance, you could record a short video clip every day for a period of time + stitch them all together!
Idea #2 Love Langauge
Do you know their love language? How can you speak to that in the video? Here’s a recap of the 5 Love Languages from Gary Chapman:
- Gift giving
- Quality time
- Physical touch
- Words of affirmation
- Acts of service
Idea #3 Montage
Reach out to his friends + family to participate! Put together a montage of people’s messages for him so that he really feels the love. Here’s my guide to filming birthday video montages + how to edit a birthday montage if you need more tips + tricks! If you choose this birthday video idea, you’ll need to make sure to get a head start so you have plenty of time to collect everyone’s messages + put them together.
Idea #4 Love Actually
I named this idea after one of my husband’s favorite movies. If you’re nervous to talk on camera, try writing your message on cards that you hold in front of the camera. Slowly turn the cards one by one as some music plays in the background. This is one of the simplest birthday video ideas for your husband – so perfect for beginners!
Idea #5 Creative Collaboration
I watched this video on YouTube recently where they used a clever transition to pass a large notebook in between a bunch of video participants. You would have to ensure everyone has the same style of notebook. Or, you could also have everyone buy a poster board of the same size to make it look consistent from video to video. Make sure everyone is throwing their notebook or poster in the same direction (and also receiving it from the same direction). This step is so that all the videos match up in editing. It’s the most complex of the 5 birthday video ideas for your husband, but it’s so creative + sure to make a big impression.
