Romantic Colorado Winter Date Ideas

Colorado Winter Date Ideas from Evergreen Lane Productions

I’ll admit the during the cold months, I tend to hibernate and never want to leave my house. However, there is something special about prioritizing date nights into your routine as a couple and so I’m writing this post as some personal accountability to get out and do some fun things despite the cold snow and early nights. Here are three romantic Colorado winter date ideas in Denver and the surrounding area:

Winter Date Idea 1: Snow Sculptures + Beers

Need an excuse to get up into the mountains without needing to buy a one thousand dollar lift ticket (I kid, I kid)? Visit Breckenridge during the International Snow Sculpture Championships, where you can few huge art pieces constructed entirely from snow. Personally, I think the best time to see these sculptures is after sunset! Once you’re good and chilly, warm up at Breckenridge Brewery with a Snow Glare and pretzel bites. Or, if you get cold as easily as I do, put on your beer jacket before you head out to see the sculptures and you’ll have an extra layer of warmth.

Winter Date Idea 2: Blossoms of Light + Hot Chocolate

Stick closer to home in Denver with the classic holiday lights at Denver Botanic Gardens. You’ll have to grab tickets in advance for this fan favorite, but it’s really worth it. Before you walk through the gardens, head to Pablo’s coffee for hot chocolate. There’s no wi-fi at this neighborhood joint, so that means less scrolling Instagram and more conversation – perfect for an intentional date night! Once you’re done with your drinks, head down the street to Cheeseman Park and the Denver Botanic Gardens. Beware: these lights are so romantic that Christian proposed to me after our annual visit in 2016 (no pressure though 😉 It’s best to visit right after a big snow, or while it’s snowing if you’re brave because everything looks extra pretty when painted in a fresh coat of white. When we visited during a snowstorm, we practically had the place to ourselves!

Winter Date Idea 3: Ice skating + Wine Tasting

It’s not the Rockefeller Center, but it’s still pretty special. In the middle of LoDo’s Skyline Park, an ice skating rink pops up every year which is perfect for dates. Skating is free if you bring your own skates and $9 per adult if you need skate rentals. Take a few spins around the rink and then head indoors for a wine tasting at nearby Noble Riot. It’s my favorite wine bar in Denver mainly because it’s 100% unpretentious while still knowing their shit. Snuggle up at a wall table together and read their menu (it’s a zine!) or if you need suggestions, I’ve always gotten great advice from their sommeliers.

Which Colorado winter date are you putting on your calendar?

I always forget how good getting outside is for my health, even in the dark winter months. We’re not much of a tv-watching couple, but between December and February, we do our fair share of Netflix nights. However, now I’m pretty committed to making all three of these outdoor date nights happen again this year! What’s your favorite seasonal date night in your area?
